| Home Learning | ||
| Students have home learning Monday-Friday. It must be completed and turned in the next day. The Home Learning sheet is given to each student on Mondays or the latest on Tuesdays. Students will receive a 100 if the assignment has been turned in complete. Points will be taken if the assignments are not completely done. No late homework is accepted unless the child was absent or a note from home was received. We are trying to teach the students responsibility. You may provide help but they should do most of the work. It is recommended for your child to read at least 30 minutes every night. We have also provided a reading log to keep track of their reading schedules. |

| Supplies and Personal Belongings | ||
| Supplies: Students need to have paper and pencils in class everyday. Please make sure they have at least 2 pencils daily and a sharpener also. Check book bag daily for information and home learning. Personal Belongings: Please make sure your child's supplies are labeled with their name. We cannot be responsible for lost or damaged items. Lunch money should be kept in their pockets or in a safe place. |

| Objectives | ||
There is a great emphasis on reading, writing and math in 2 nd grade for the SAT exams and for preparation for the FCAT exam in 3rd grade. Math: It should be interesting and meaningful, not just memorizing facts. Students will be asked to engage in higher order thinking. We are also following the scope and sequence given by the district. Content area: In addition to the regular 2nd grade curriculum we plan to introduce them to different cultures and character education such as responsibility, honesty, trustworthy, etc. We are following the scope and sequence for science. For Social Studies, we just received new books and we are working now with communities. Reading: Students will also respond to the literature read through questions and short answer to prepare them for important tests. We also have daily reading groups, vocabulary skills, comprehension skills including FCAT Responding, we are promoting that reading can be for fun. |
